The Beagle channel was discovered by a British expedition commanded by the famous Captain Fitz Roy, who named it after his eminent ship, the Beagle.

The channel works as a limit between Argentina and Chile, and it is a natural passage between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, a place where most of the sea excursions are carried out, sailing the quiet waters, watching the steep "Cordillera Fueguina", with its snow-covered peaks and abundant forests, watching the many islands inhabited by sea lions, penguins, cormorants and other migratory species.

The excursions that stand out are the visits to Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse, the schools of sea lions, the "Isla de los Pájaros" (Island of Birds), the National Park Tierra del Fuego and the beautiful Lapataia bay. On the other end, you will find the penguin rookery of Martillo island, which coincides with the visit to the estancia Harberton , where the British colonizers settled after the foundation of the city and which still belongs to their descendants.
From the Ushuaia Harbor several cruises set sail to Punta Arenas, the Cape of Hornos and the "Canales Fueguinos" (channels from Tierra del Fuego), visiting glaciers and penguin rookeries, and in high season, Antarctica.
